Quick Five Questions – Stewart Campbell – Editor-in-Chief, Boat International Media
3rd October 2022What are the latest yacht design trends?
Two hulls are better than one.
What the are the most ground breaking recent deliveries for design and what makes them so?
Kensho is the standout for me. The owner spent years visiting yachts, taking measurements, and ultimately building a spec that was very specifically tailored to his needs. It breaks the mould in lots of interesting ways. Check out the story in the October issue of Boat International!
KENSHO is a 74.85 m Motor Yacht, built in Italy by Admiral – The Italian Sea Group and delivered in 2022.
Has the Pandemic changed the way owners use their yachts? If so, what has changed?
Yes. People are spending more time afloat on their own boats and charterers are booking longer trips. Comfort is key, meanwhile, when it comes to interiors.
What is the most unusual design request you have had?
As the editor of BOAT International, I’m not sure I’ve had many unusual design requests. We did, however, once put a person (Greta Garbo) on the cover instead of a boat, which didn’t go down very well with our faithful readers.
Are owners looking to make the design and use of their yachts more sustainable?
Absolutely. I spend a lot of time in shipyards and with designers, and every single one is engaging with this challenge. Future owners are going to demand the cleanest boats possible, so we all have to get behind this effort.
