Growing up, I inherited from my mother, who was an interior designer, a love for bold colours and quirky design elements. She taught me the importance of black to ground a room, incorporating odd colours for character and depth, and painting walls in colours I love rather than following trends. My office and whole house reflects this mix of bold colour and eclectic pieces, creating a space with personality and history.
Absolutely, my background in interiors, architecture, and landscaping gives me valuable insight into the complexities of design businesses. I understand the discretion required when dealing with clients and suppliers. However, I’ve never aspired to work in this field myself; my mother’s brilliance set a high standard, and I prefer pursuing my own interests while leaving design to the experts.
Gardening is absolutely therapeutic for me, it’s my sanctuary and if this helps causes I am involved with then so much the better. I’m particularly passionate about trees and spend hours tending to my garden, especially the new trees in the field where I’m creating a small arboretum. I’ve planted numerous trees and shrubs, restored native hedging, and developed conservation areas. I strive to create a garden that complements my home like a scarf around the neck, as one of my designer friends beautifully put it.
One of the most fulfilling trips I’ve taken recently was to India, specifically Mumbai and Karnataka, with the OSCAR Foundation. It was the most life changing experience being involved with this extraordinary, home grown and thriving project if only for 10 days. I would recommend everyone have an OSCAR moment, sponsor a child and support an exceptional foundation.
Yes, seeing a candidate thrive in a role they hadn’t considered before is incredibly rewarding. My job is not just about matching clients with candidates but ensuring that the fit is mutually beneficial and that both parties will excel and be happy in their roles. I take great care to consider both sides to ensure a successful match.
